Information services have become an essential infrastructure facility for conducting Research on tribal culture, customs, history, archaeology and languages of Arunachal Pradesh. In the present situation, use of information and communication technologies (ICT) has increased tremendously. To cope with the changing environment, the focus of user services is now information content-centred as opposed to conventional document-based services. In this process, Librarian as well as library users depend more on e-publishing, online and internet resources etc. Thus the nature of function of the libraries is changing and tends to become more and more organized as a network, and remain decentralized, scattered, collaborative and responsive.
In the light of these development, the Reference Library of the Directorate of Research, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh , Itanagar has developed its own website. The site is hyperlinked to a wide range of information resources, services. It is our endeavour to provide resources and services as one-stop-shop by way of applying ICT in order to provide fast, focused and easy access to relevant information on the tribal cultural heritage together with history and archaeology of the State to all social scientists and researchers of the country.
I am delighted that the conscientious effort taken by Dr. K.K.Pandey, Librarian, Reference Library in development of ICT in the library services, an unique facility in the Government library of the state is appreciable.
